The exhibition Zlín – Model Town of Modernism will be opened in the Architekturmuseum der TU München in the Pinakothek der Moderne this autumn. The accompanying exhibition catalogue includes essays by recognised architectural historians and describes the complex development of Zlín and the Bat’a concern from the different perspectives of urban-planning, architecture, and social history. Plans, photographs and historical documents round up the picture of the city, which Le Corbusier described as a “shiny phenomenon”. There is a seperate essay on Le Corbusier’s concept for Bat’a, which is presented in the exhibition together with his original plans. This publication thus offers a unique documentation of this city, which was planned according to functionalist principles. Exhibition and catalogue are elaborated by the Architekturmuseum der TU München in cooperation with the National Gallery in Prague, and the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín. Zlín – Model Town of Modernism is part of Zipp – German-Czech Cultural Projects, an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
