PUZZLE. How a collection is exhibited or how a building curates a collection – this was the title of an experiment carried out by the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Leipzig between June 2010 and March 2011, with regard to the exhibition of a collection. 10 groups, totalling 48 people between the ages of 5 and 75, were invited to curate a total of 34 exhibitions in ten different spaces, or to realize installations.
The aim of the project was to “present art as a curatorial practice”, focussing on the experience of a wide range of perceptions and interests pertaining to a collection of contemporary art. The versatile architecture of the new gallery building played a particular role in how the ideas were put into practice.
The book accompanying the project is more than just a documentation: with its clear design and striking typography, it seeks to convey this method of curating in book form, as an inspiration to others.
