International Building Exhibitions (IBA) have been in existence in Germany for over one hundred years. They therefore constitute a fixed element of urban development, always delivering innovative responses to the pressing issues of dwelling, building, and urban planning of their respective eras. Yet what characterises an IBA? What have preceding IBAs actually achieved? And how can this long tradition be built upon in the future? These matters were intensely debated during the IBA meets IBA forum documented here. They have demonstrated that: IBA needs IBA—debate on the future of International Building Exhibitions is enriching and provides an indispensible basis for the perpetuation of an over one-hundred-year-old IBA success story. This publication gathers the essential contributions to that debate and outlines the components of the IBA meets IBA network. With contributions by Werner Durth, Uli Hellweg, Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Jörn Walter among others and a guest contribution by Roger Willemsen.
