After the war and up into the 1960s, construction in the “Capital of the GDR“ was also marked by international architecture. A large number of high quality, modern post-war buildings were constructed, including the “Kino International” and the “Tränenpalast” (Palace of Tears) at Friedrichstraße Train Station, as well as schools, industrial plants and recreational facilities. This book examines this architecture, presenting outstanding examples and documenting their significance.
