There is a demand for large, affordable and individually designable apartments in our inner cities – but the uniform standards of big investors and developers are unable to meet such wishes adequately. auf.einander.bauen now examines one possible way of realising the dream of a home of one’s own. By joining to form building groups, private house builders can focus their designs entirely on their own needs, while sharing the incidental costs. The twelve building group projects in Berlin presented here are evidence that the outcome may be architecturally superior, innovative, and sometimes even spectacular.
