One of the most beautiful twentieth century power stations ever, Cottbus Diesel Power Station, on an island on the River Spree right next to the old part of town, has been dazzlingly reopened as an art museum for the Brandenburg Cultural Foundation. Anderhalten Architekten carried out a refurbishment process that remained true to monument protection guidelines; the expressionist brick structure was carefully converted to produce abstract-modernist exhibition spaces of various size for the Cottbus collection of contemporary art.
