The pictures of the photographer Maria Sewcz, born in 1960, are subjective, almost analytical registrations of reality. Her subjects are urbanity, social and cultural structures, architecture and sculpture, and the portrait. Often, it is the inconspicuous that stands at the center of her interest. The artist has been presented in many exhibitions both nationally and internationally since the 1980s, most recently in the Neue Nationalgalerie and the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. ”Maria Sewcz convinces … with a consistent development of her photographic standpoints over a period of two decades, above and beyond fashionable trends. Although her motifs are all taken from the everyday world, viewers are both attracted and irritated by the remarkable concentration and focus of her images. Moments are called back to consciousness that would not otherwise be defined and understood by our everyday mode of seeing.“ Dr. Thomas Flierl Senator for Science, Research and Culture.
