Too little is known about the way that youths today use their city and the urban space, and which city they construct to suit their own needs. We are not sufficiently aware of the qualities and by contrast, the deficits and restrictions that young people experience in urban public space. This theme was the subject of a research project promoted by the Wüstenrot Foundation and carried out by an interdisciplinary team of landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning, and sociology at the STUDIO URBANE LANDSCHAFTEN of Leibniz University Hanover. Taking new approaches, the project focuses especially on the impulses youths themselves can provide for an urban development practice that is able to recognize and take into account their needs more effectively.
